During the four week program, the friendly staff at Karen Sheldon Training will spend time with you to help you work out what you want to do.  During this process we will help you to determine what your strengths are and also your weaknesses, this ensures we find you employment that will be satisfying and rewarding. If you have an idea of what you would like to do, that is a great first step – please feel free to discuss this with us when you register.

We have a great relationship with the McDonalds chain, having successfully placed many graduates from our course into work at Ludmilla, Stuart Park, Casuarina or Darwin City stores.  We also work closely with the larger hotels such as SKYCITY, Intercontinental Hotel Group and Accor Hotels.  The Darwin Convention Centre is also a huge supporter of our program with many students working large events and delegate conventions.  We are always seeking new and exciting places to work so if you have somewhere in mind, just let us know.

Code of Conduct

Karen Sheldon Training understands the barriers some indigenous people are faced with when looking for work.  We do not screen individuals and we believe in giving everyone a fair go.  In return we do ask you to be dedicated in completing our course and also be committed to finding employment.  We guarantee you will have lots of fun but you may also be faced with challenges as you begin to learn about yourself throughout the journey of self discovery.

Karen Sheldon Training will not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour by any participant.

Job Services Australia

Job Services Australia, also known as a JSA’s act as one-stop shops for job seekers.  They replace previous employment services, known as job networks.  Job Services Australia will give you the level of support you need to help you find and keep a job.  JSA’s work closely with organisations such as Karen Sheldon Training by referring  job seekers  to participate in programs such as our hospitality pre-employment course.

There are two ways you can register to receive help from Job Services Australia:

  1. Register with Centrelink - this is the most common way to register for assistance.
  2. Register directly with a Job Services Australia provider.

Register via Centrelink

To receive help from Job Services Australia, you will generally need to register with Centrelink. Centrelink will provide you with information to enable you to choose a Job Services Australia provider and will make your first appointment for you.

Register directly with a Job Services Australia provider

Under certain circumstances you may be eligible to register directly with your local Job Services Australia provider without registering with Centrelink first. If you’re not sure, your local Job Services Australia provider will be able to determine if you are able to register directly. If you are eligible you can complete the registration form and begin receiving services from your Job Services Australia provider.

Your JSA will determine the level of help you are eligible to receive and place you into one of four streams of support.
