Our Future Stars are spreading!!!

In March this year, we were part of the Katherine Hospitality Indigenous Workforce Development – Training program organised by Charttes Training Advisory Council under the Flexible Response Program facilitated by the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training.

This was a Pilot Project that included cross cultural awareness provided by Cross Cultural Consultants, pre-employment training by Karen Sheldon Catering, and participant engagement, facilitation and employment support by Jobfind Katherine. Karen Sheldon Catering (KSC) was invited to participate in the project as a recognised provider of hospitality training in both Darwin and regional NT.

Subsequently, we entered into an IEP Program with DEEWR to provide six months mentoring to the successful candidates who moved into work.

Building on the success of this pilot, we now have DEEWR contracts in place for another 30 participants in Katherine.
We are very grateful to the Paraway Motel, - the venue for our current course. It is fantastic to be delivering our training in an actual working hospitality business, and this means our trainees are exposed to the real world immediately, and can participate in various work experience activities.

We are also very pleased to have one of our previous trainees on our Mentoring Team – Betsy Chandler is greatly enhancing our Katherine mentoring capability with her local knowledge and empathy. Betsy will be advancing her professional development by undertaking study for her Certificate 111 in Business Administration while she is with us.
